Devil’s Snare

Devil’s Snare is a magical plant which can constrict or strangle anything near it or which touches it. The plant has some amount of a sense of touch, and will bind anyone that touches it, tightening faster the more a person struggles. The only way to get it to willingly release a person is for the person to relax, though the plant will stop moving in a brightly lit environment and will draw back from the heat of a fire.

Devil’s Snare History

Devil’s snare is found around the grounds of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry at times, and was even used during the Battle of Hogwarts as a line of defense against the attacking forces. The plant has also been known to be used an a method of assassination, such as Broderick Bode, an Unspeakable who worked for the British Ministry of Magic, who was assassinated while at St Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries when the Devil’s Snare was sent to him in the guise of a gift.
