Dementor’s Kiss History
The Dementor’s Kiss has only been used as punishment in rare cases. Sirius Black was supposed to receive the Dementor’s Kiss in 1994 after his escape from Azkaban, but he narrowly escaped from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry before the punishment could be administered. In 1995, Bartemius Crouch Jr. was given the Dementor’s Kiss after it was found that he had escaped Azkaban unnoticed in 1982 with the help of his family by swapping him and his dying mother using Polyjuice Potion. After the Dementors abandoned Azkaban, there may have been more victims of the Dementor’s Kiss, although the exact number is unknown.
