Death Eater History
Formed from He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named’s schoolmates, whom he manipulated into doing his bidding, the early group was called the Knights of Walpurgis, but in the 1950’s when He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named began his initial rise to power renamed them to be Death Eaters. They aimed to purify wizarding-kind by eliminating Muggles, Muggle-borns, and blood traitors so that He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named could install a global wizarding dictatorship. The Death Eaters prospered throughout the First Wizarding War, but after the fall of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, many Death Eaters proclaimed their innocence, claiming to have been under the Imperius Curse, while others turned in other Death Eaters to escape judgement. From 1981 to 1994 the Death Eaters remained largely inactive, until the 422nd Quidditch World Cup, where a group of Death Eaters attacked and tortured a group of witches and wizards, as well as a nearby Muggle family. On 24 June 1995, when He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named regained his physical body, he summoned the Death Eaters to him, marking the start of the Second Wizarding War, though open war did not start until 1996, and lasted until the fall of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named in 1998 which also signaled the end of the Death Eaters.
