Moaning Myrtle met her untimely demise when she encountered the Basilisk from the Chamber of Secrets, making her one of its victims. This tragic event occurred during her time as a student at Hogwarts, where she was often bullied by her peers. Myrtle’s death was used by Tom Riddle (later known as Lord Voldemort) to create his first Horcrux, the diary.

Since becoming a ghost, Myrtle has spent her afterlife residing within the confines of the school, particularly favoring the second-floor girls’ bathroom, where she was killed. Her presence there is marked by her lamentations and wailing, leading to the nickname “Moaning Myrtle.”

Despite her tragic past and often somber mood, Myrtle has played a significant role in assisting Harry Potter and his friends during their adventures at Hogwarts. She provided crucial information about the Chamber of Secrets and the Basilisk and also helped Harry in the Triwizard Tournament by giving him hints for the second task.
